Driving therapy is a goal-directed, systematic problem-solving approach to meeting driver and, or passenger needs. Along the way, you will find that as your understanding and decision-making skills increase, your performance improves, which will increase your confidence, thereby allowing you to better manage your anxiety.
A Driving Therapist is a Road Safety Education Specialist. In this field, the goal is to give you the tools to over-come any barriers that prevent you from gaining or regaining independence in your transportation needs and quality of life.
A Driving Therapist will tailor a program that will address your specific needs. You will learn many strategies to keep your anxiety within reasonable limits. Pain management, use of some basic back and neck supports, anger management etc. are all issues with which a Driving Therapist can help you.
A Driving Therapist will help you to become familiar with topics such as risk management, decision making, hazard perception, systematic desensitization, compensatory strategies, and cooperative driving.
Hustler Driving Therapy employs a highly skilled Driving Therapist team. This is to ensure that our clients are being treated by a professional who has a high level of education and experience working with transportation and driving challenges.
The goal of Hustler Driving Therapy is to aid individuals with phobias, disabilities, accident or age-related impairments to maintain or retrain their thought processes when behind the wheel. This results in increasing independence and confidence regarding driving and transportation. The process begins with a clinical assessment of an individual's visual, visual-perceptual, cognitive, and physical skills that are necessary for driving. If the individual meets the criteria, an on-road assessment is conducted, in which the Driving Therapist uses a vehicle with adaptive driving equipment, including an auxiliary brake and mirror on the passenger's side of the vehicle.
In other instances, such as after an illness or injury, an assessment of the person's capacity for driving is required. The focus is on identifying any changes in the person's sensory, motor, visual, perceptual, or cognitive ability. The clinical assessment is conducted first, followed by the on-road assessment, using a vehicle equipped with the passenger brake and mirror.
